In an age of exploration and adventure, few knew the locations of the last great treasures of the five coasts; but there were maps. The Ikeron Empire had concurred much of the world. In the empire's conquests, they came upon unique tribal statues. Unknown to the empire, the statues contain ancient treasure maps.
One man, a thief, discovers such a map when plundering through an Ikeron Empire's fortress. Inscribed on the map is a red sword, located on an uncharted island. It was written by the Pirate King, Bardune. Despite his cunning plans, the thief is caught, sentenced to prison, and forever branded a pirate. Placed on a prison vessel, the man is shipped off to slavery. However, by a stroke of luck, the man was rescued by a marauding band of pirates.
Grateful for his being saved, the man offers the ancient map he had concealed upon being captured. Intrigued by the gift, the crew of the Sweeping Sabre agrees to search for the two blades. Under the command of Captain Lanun Cormick, they set sail not knowing of the dark secret that awaits.
Upon entering the first island, the pirates, lead by Captain Cormick, venture into a dark and mysterious jungle. All is calm until one of the pirates is struck dead by a swinging log. Immediately, the group is surrounded by swarms of tiny men they called "pygmies." Scrambling to higher grounds, many fall to the devious beings. Captain Cormick and the survivors of the encounter eventually find a glowing red altar. At the top of this structure is the weapon of the treasure, a red sword. Lanun snatches the blade. Suddenly, pirate ghosts come forth from caves surrounding the altar. The beings charge towards the pirates with swords razed. The pirates attempt to parry their blows, but their blades traveled through the metal of the pirates' swords and pierced flesh; however, when the captain strikes back, the transparent figures vanished. Lanun and the pirates are far too outnumbered, and escape to the Sweeping Sabre on the other side of the island.
Lanun soon discovers that anyone else who touches the blade is singed by the shrine, she notices blue glow and approaches it. Atop another altar, she finds a blue dagger. Taking the weapon, the cave begins to shake. Lanun quickly backtracked to the shore and made way back to the ship.
Coming aboard the Sweeping Sabre, the ship shudders from a massive force. Tentacles burst from the ocean to engulf the ship. As with the ghosts of the first island, this creature is only vulnerable to strikes from the cursed sword. After striking the tentacles several times, the creature sinks into the water.
A pirate yells from the crow's nest, reporting that a mass of fog is approaching the Sweeping Sabre's stern. Gradually, a small island emerges from the fog. Wrecked ships surround the island, beholding a grim sight.
With a crew of sailors, Lanun enters the strange island and makes way to a flight of stone steps. As they climb the steps, Lanun hears whispering coming from behind her. She turns around to find a twin ghost of herself be revealed. The two fight each other, matching blow for blow. Lanun's red blade becomes locked with the twin's. She unsheathes the blue dagger and thrusts it into the ghost's heart. The ghost erodes into nothingness, leaving a skull ring. Picking up the ring, Lanun puts it on her finger.
A ghostly voice whispers, "All hail the pirate queen." The fog surrounding the island fades. A fleet of ghost ships come into view, each flying the flag of the Sweeping Sabre.
